Edge Strength & Conditioning offers training programs for anyone and everyone, regardless of age, gender, skill level, or athletic or fitness goals. Our programs are designed for youth, middle school, high school, collegiate, and elite athletes, as well as, teams and adults. At Torrey's Edge Strength and Conditioning, we cater to each client's individual needs. We pride ourselves in our dedication, enthusiasm and our ability to motivate while pushing our clients to their fullest potentials. Based out of New Jersey, we are founded and lead by John Torrey, an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach.
While in New Jersey we had the opportunity to train with John Torrey, it was an awesome experience. John utilized functional body movements, to help mimic what we do on the field. I could feel how each movement we trained would translate onto the field and help us perform better. When TBL is back in New Jersey, hopefully John will be available!

It has been three weeks now since we made one of the BEST decisions for our daughter Liv both mentally and physically! Liv loves and breaths softball, and plays very well but there are some areas that are holding her back from achieving her maximum potential. Even though she practices multiple days a week at her second home, the softball field, her weight tends to slow her down. Liv is a strong hitter and fielder but if she could improve the areas of speed and agility, in her game playing it would make her a more rounded player. Unfortunately because of her intense practice and games schedule during the spring time, Liv developed tendinitis in her elbow. There was no way she was going to let this stop her from playing her true passion but we knew it was time to make some changes, and that's where John Torrey of Edge Strength & Conditioning changed our lives forever! I was given John's name by a great friend who told me what John has done for her son and I was excited to see what he could do with Liv. Well, I truly can not say enough about John and his cross fit classes. Besides softball, I never seen Liv so passionate and excited to go every week. John isn't just helping to improve her body and skills on the field but he had changed her entire outlook. She is looking good and feeling great! John cares about every single person that walks thru his doors and goes the extra mile for all of them. His love and passion for what he does passes right down to his students and makes them leaving wanting more. Liv has already made it known that after this 6 week session she has to sign up for the next one, and she absolutely will be apart of it for a long, long time! To see what John is doing and has done for my daughter, well it is beyond measurable and makes me eternally grateful! Thank you John, you have forever friends in the Hellers! We enrolled our 10-year-old son, Kyle, in John Torrey’s NJLC offseason training program just 6 short weeks ago. In that time, we have noticed a marked improvement in his endurance, strength, and cardiovascular health. John puts together strength, agility, and conditioning programs that are dynamic, fast-paced, and fun, while emphasizing good form and maximum effort – and ultimately pushes young athletes beyond their own perceived limits without them even realizing it! Kyle has gone from barely being able to do a set of pushups to doing box jump and climbing ropes! More importantly, however, Kyle has shown an increase in confidence that all parents can appreciate. John’s calm demeanor, positive attitude, and constant encouragement have no doubt led to his dramatically-improved self-esteem and self-image. That is something we can never repay him for.
John Torrey has been a part of the NJlC family for several years, as his oldest son was a player on one of our elite teams. Over that time, he has always offered valuable advice to our players and coaches on the finer points of training – enabling our athletes to perform at optimal levels. We realized how much we leaned on him for training programs, and subsequently named him our head Strength & Conditioning Coach. He not only consults with the coaches of our 10+ teams on conditioning and agility drills, but also runs offseason training sessions with those interested in building their strength, endurance, and ultimately their college marketability. He is a valuable resource and one that we will not be without!

After partaking in John Torrey’s fitness program for about 20 weeks now, I can personally say that my body and my mind have taken leaps and bounds towards my fitness goals. John uses not only the standard approach to fitness of guiding participates through exercises, but also takes the time to explain in detail what is going on with your body, alternative exercises, and techniques to do on your own. He is very observant of his clients taking into account their limits and when to push those limits and boundaries. John even referred me to a nutritionist who is excellent. I am looking forward to working with John in the future.
I had the opportunity to witness John Torrey work with athletes ranging from 10 – 18 years old. John has the ability to cater his knowledge to each participate. Some athletes come to John for speed and agility, while others come to gain core strength through weight lifting. John is able to give both direct instruction on overall skills or even make finer adjustments to athlete’s techniques. John excels in diverse settings along with many different sized groups. I recommend my players pay a visit to John.

Training with Coach Torrey has taken me to a level of fitness I didn’t think I
would reach. Going into the summer after my freshman year at Virginia Military
Institute I decided that I wanted to start lifting more and getting stronger which I did.
I started off with little guidance,but got connected with Coach Torrey after playing
Lacrosse with his son for two yearsthen seeing Coach Torrey at NJLCpractices while
I was a coach. I reached out to him for help and he helped me tremendously.He
started getting me into a routine and program throughout the summer.Once I
started up school again I told him what I was looking to put on some muscle mass
and become stronger.He put together a excellent program for me. The results I got
from working with him were amazing. I put on 20 pounds of muscle in about 3 and
half months! I went from 165 pounds to 185 pounds. I was obviously bigger,but in a
good way. I felt stronger then I ever have and because of his help I feel like I am in
the best shape of my life. I noticed a clear strength difference when playing in my
club lacrosse games here at Virginia Military Institute. While working with him I
didn’t have to sacrifice` endurance or speed for muscle. Coach Torrey put together
the best program for me to become an overall better athlete and to become bigger,
